Claims process
How do I file a VA disability claim online?
Use VA.gov’s official disability-claim application to start and submit a claim for disability compensation. You can begin the online application, save your progress, add supporting information, and submit through VA’s authenticated process. VMC does not file the claim for you and does not collect VA credentials.
Start on VA.gov
VA provides an online disability-compensation application. Sign in through VA.gov using an accepted identity provider and follow the official claim questions.
VA states that if you start the online application and later finish it within the allowed period, the date you started the application can be recognized as the date of claim under the online process. Always follow the current VA instructions shown in the application.
Prepare the information and evidence you have
VA may review service treatment records, VA medical records, private medical evidence, supporting statements, and other evidence depending on the claim. You do not need to invent or duplicate evidence merely to fill a checklist.
If evidence is not ready when you start, VA provides ways to submit supporting evidence while the claim is pending, subject to the current rules and deadlines.
Review before final submission
Confirm the claimed conditions, contact information, service information, treatment sources, and any uploaded evidence before submitting. The official submission screen and confirmation are the authoritative filing record.
If you want individual claims assistance, an accredited VSO representative, attorney, or claims agent can help. VMC remains an independent educational and planning tool.
